July saw the team pick up Jo's Mum Angela, (who was over in England on her holiday) to be a part of the team for their Mugello Circuit Race, the third race weekend on their Italian calendar saw the team get their best placing in the championship so far, and to battle inside the top 20 of 41 top riders, now competing again World Supersport Racer Christian Gammerino, and many WSBK teams in our class.
Practice and Qualifying saw then drop lap times, by not only points of seconds... but 2 second leaps at a time. Thanks to the advice they obtained from the Factory Aprilia Race Team to help set up their bike for this extremely physical 5.2km track and shocking a lot of people at the lap times they could do as their first weekend ever here on their Aprilia.
Qualifying with their best time of 1.56.20, putting them in 26th place.
Another awesome start saw Dillon in 17th place down into turn one, only for 5 bikes to crash between turns 3 and 4 causing a red flag situation.
We lost a large sponsor between the last round and this one, which meant very tight budget cuts, which saw us no longer with the KRT Racing team we began the season with, due to not being able to pay them, though they kindly offered to still take our bike to each race weekend so we can continue the championship if we could find funds to pay for all our own tyres and fuel etc.
So the team is now litterary Dillon & Jo, and Angela for this round, having no generator for the start grid or any red flag situations, we ask the Aprilia team if they would be kind enough to help a promising young Kiwi out, and help they did.
So the reg flag situation saw Dillon park up outside the Aprilia Nuova M2 pit box, to await a re-start.
Another cracker of a start for Dillon, and a hard 10 lap tussle with 5 other riders for top positions, to cross the line in 21st position, we know we could have achieved better if we had a rear tyre compound that had grip, (our rookie fault) but never the less the best outcome so far.
And room to improve on, for the return to this track in September for the remainder of the Championship.
We have a massive thanks to all new sponsors that have come on board and supported us..
