Round two of the Italian National Trophy 1000 Championship saw the team travel to the Marco Simoncelli Misano World Circuit.. World class it was.. As a Moto GP test track, security is of very high standard, and even on our race weekends, is just as hard for anyone not got a ticket to enter.
Being May and coastal the weather was being difficult, like NZ having 4 seasons in one day, 20mins before our quailifing 1 there was a down pour and the track and every pit tent was flooded. That was great for us, as Dillon is comfortable in the rain, even with no having any wet setting for these Italian tracks and no set up help, Dillon & Jo make a good judgement call in settings, which saw Dillon leading Q1 for nearly the whole session, until another rider caught a tow and crosses the line .01 of a second faster, taking our first ever provisional pole position in Europe from us.
Q2 saw a dry session, which didn't suit our settings, and with 42 fast riders in the class saw us qualify 26th having only ridden on the track for the first time for 2 hours previous to qualifying.
It was a very competitive race, not having much test time for this track, and being one of the trickier tracks to learn, we didn't have quite the right bike set up or gearing, the changing in weather conditions and temperature didn't help this tricky weekend.
We still held onto our position after running up in 24th for some time, to finish back in 26th place.
We had some work to do to improve this result for our return to this track in a few months time.
